01 / Editorial promise
No borrowed lab coat.
We do not describe desk research as hands-on testing. The current 2026 guide is a researched editorial synthesis of manufacturer documentation and current, measurement-led third-party reviews.
Name the evidence
Every pick links to a current manufacturer source for its core specifications.
Keep the catch
Every recommendation includes a material reason it may be wrong for someone.
Invent experience
No fake listening rooms, anonymous “experts,” copied customer quotes or made-up tests.

Confirm the model is current
We look for an active product page, current support material and credible retail availability during the guide’s update window.

Normalize the claims
We record resolution architecture, light-output unit, throw ratio, optical controls, ports, smart platform and published latency without silently changing the manufacturer’s measurement language.

Check independent evidence
Where available, we compare manufacturer claims with instrumented reviews and controlled side-by-side observations from established projector specialists.

Give it one clear job
A portable projector does not compete with a dedicated-theater model on absolute image quality. It competes on how well it solves portable movie night.

A pick is not finished until its most important tradeoff and likely wrong buyer are stated in plain language.
03 / Selection lenses
What carries weight.
Contrast, black level, color accuracy, HDR handling, motion and visible artifacts.
Usable light output, screen size, ambient light, throw geometry and required screen type.
Throw range, optical zoom, focus consistency and lens shift before digital geometry correction.
Startup, focus, fan behavior, streaming support, remotes, audio routing and physical size.
Published lag at specific signal formats, refresh support, ALLM/VRR and image-mode compromises.
The likely screen, mount, furniture and sound costs—not only the projector’s temporary price.
04 / Spec language
Numbers keep their units.
ANSI lumens ≠ ISO lumens ≠ IDMS color lumens
These standards describe different methods or quantities. We keep the published unit next to every brightness number and avoid presenting unlike figures as a clean laboratory ranking.
“4K UHD via pixel shifting” means the projector displays a 3,840 × 2,160 addressable image by rapidly shifting a lower-resolution imaging element. “Native 4K” is reserved for a native-resolution panel. Both approaches can look excellent; they are not the same architecture.
Input-lag claims always need their signal format. A headline 4 ms figure at 1080p/240 Hz does not imply 4 ms at 4K/60 Hz.
05 / Source policy
Primary first, independent second.
Core specifications come from current manufacturer pages or manuals. Editorial judgments are checked against publications that describe their testing and publish model-specific observations. We never copy their prose, ratings, photographs or proprietary measurements into our own voice.
